Image Caption Maker

Add a caption to a photo in a few clicks. Put it in a bar under the picture, over the image, as meme text, or in a Polaroid-style frame. Your picture stays in your browser.

How to add a caption to an image

  1. Choose a picture. Drop, paste or pick a PNG, JPEG or WebP file, or try the sample photo.
  2. Pick a style. A bar below or above the picture keeps the photo untouched. “On the picture” overlays the caption; Meme puts text at the top and bottom; Polaroid adds a photo frame.
  3. Type your caption and adjust the font, size, colors and spacing.
  4. Download a PNG, JPG or WebP at the picture’s full size.

Good to know

  • The caption is drawn into the image file. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
  • With the bar and Polaroid styles the file is taller than your original, because the caption area is added to the picture.
  • Long captions wrap to several lines automatically. Make the text size smaller if you need more room.
  • For several separate texts placed freely on the picture, use the Add Text to Image tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a meme?

Choose the Meme style, type the top and bottom text, and download. The Meme style uses a heavy font in white with a black outline, and you can change both.

Will it crop or resize my photo?

No. The picture keeps its full size. Images larger than 5000 pixels on the long side are scaled down first so your browser can handle them.

Can I add a caption without covering the photo?

Yes. Use Bar below or Bar above. The caption sits in its own strip added to the image.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account and no watermark.
